PF introduces surveys to investigate attack on indigenous area in MS

Attack was in the town of Paez, the 477 km from Campo Grande. PF will investigate the circumstances of the attack and the disappearance of an Indian.

The Federal Police introduced two surveys to investigate the attack by gunmen on the Indian area in Korá Brook Paranhos, the Campo Grande 477 miles. The information was released by the Press Office of the organ on Monday (20).

The attack occurred at dawn on 10 August, when ethnic Indians guarani-kaiowá initiated a protest and occupied areas of a farm in the vicinity of the village. Indigenous leaders have informed the police that an Indian, not yet identified, disappeared after the action of the Gunslingers.

The Federal Police informed that will investigate the circumstances of the attack and the disappearance of the Indian. The Agency also highlighted that will ascertain, impartially, all illegal acts that have been committed, both by Indians and farmers.

This Tuesday (21), a group of Federal Police officers to accompany the site will removed from cattle. The animals belong to the owners of the area occupied by the Indians and the purpose of the police is to avoid new conflicts.

Attack At dawn on 10 August, guarani-kaiowá ethnic Indians began a protest and occupied areas of a farm that are surrounding the village.

Second report of the indigenous leaders, after the occupation, about 50 armed men, in four trucks, attacked the site. The gunmen approached where the Indians were and made several shots.

According to the report, several indigenous leaders were found unexploded ammunition at the site, besides pieces of clothes burned.

Conflict According to Funai, the Korá was recognized indigenous Arroio, demarcated and approved by the federal Government in 2009. At the time, the farm’s owners filed a lawsuit contesting the decision and an injunction of the Supreme Court (STF) suspended the approval process continued until the trial on the merits.

According to Funai, the delay of the trial motivates the conflicts between Indians and farmers in the region. The area approved by the federal Government is approximately 7 thousand hectares and currently the Indians occupy an area of about 500 hectares, according to the organ.
