OnLine Valor

Advocacy-Geral da União (AGU) appealed to the Supreme Court (STF) to try to overturn the action which paralyzed yesterday the works in construction of the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant. There are approximately 13 thousand workers in activity on the banks of the Xingu River, in the municipality of Altamira (PA).

In the process, the AGU has the complainant of the action the Ibama, responsible for environmental licensing of hydroelectric power.

Last week, the decision of the Fifth Chamber of the Federal Regional Court 1st region (TRF-1) determined the suspension of the construction of the power plant under the claim that the Indians of the region should be consulted by the National Congress concerning the impact of the project.

The federal judge’s decision is Wise, based Souza in the Brazilian Constitution and legislation of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to request the interruption of work.
