Indians of Macaúba village, located in Tocantinópolis, close to the border with Maranhão, Tocantins threatened to ignite a power transmission tower, which led to the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to approve the sending of troops from the army and the national force for the city. The indigenous protest occurred on Thursday (4), and the federal building to ensure security is in place since this Friday (5).

The election judge of Tocantinópolis, Helder Carvalho Lisbon, reported that, if the tower was burned, could be committed to vote in five municipalities of Tocantins. He reported that the Indians made a bonfire of approx 3 meters around the tower and that the wood is still there. The village has approximately 52 people who plead for the electric power supply, Lisbon said.

“There is still risk because wood is there. Nothing prevents someone put fire in the tower and prejudice the vote on Sunday, “said the judge.
The threat was reported to the President of the TSE, Minister Carmen Lucia, at the beginning of this Thursday evening (4). The plenum of the Court approved the appeal at its meeting on Thursday. According to Carmen Lucia, a fire could cause problems for the vote this Sunday (7).

“Indians in Tocantinópolis surrounded a tower of Serra da Mesa hydroelectric dam. Have two or three years they come into conflict with the municipality. They threatened to put fire [the Tower]. This would affect the transmission of power, “said Carmen Lucia, saying that the situation was under control, but requires monitoring. “I think we managed to partly resolve. We hope that there will be negotiations. “

According to the President of the TSE, Funai is negotiating with the tribe. “We talk with the Ministry of Justice, they sent the National Strength, we send the army. And there have to enter the Funai, because they have to negotiate. Today the Funai is there trying to negotiate. ”

The G1 is awaiting response from Funai.
