Indigenous peoples and company enter into an agreement after meeting in Altamira, PA

The Kaiapó natives accepted proposal for $ 3 million in investments. Last Wednesday (23), they threatened to paralyze the works in Belo Monte.

In Altamira, in the southeast of Pará, 55 ethnic Indians Kayapo entered into an agreement with Eletrobras this Thursday morning (24), after the meeting between Funai, Ibama, MPF and representatives of Eletrobrás.

The company has promised to pass on to the Indians about $ 3 million per year for the next four years. The money should be invested in social projects in the areas of health and education.

The Indians were asking for the amount of r $ 4 million and last Wednesday (23) threatened to stop construction of the Belo Monte hydroelectric plant, unless their demands were met.

The Group should return this Thursday to the city yet again.
