Government Minister Dilma tried to impose a meeting in Jacareacanga, under military presence, cause for rejection of the Munduruku
After the representatives of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic if deny attend the appointment with Munduruku leaders in the village comes out gray, municipality of Jacareacanga (PA), on the last day 25, the Pusuru indigenous Association issued a letter rejecting the decision of the members of the Government. The Government representatives justified the decision against an imagined violence to be practiced by indigenous people. Said fear violence, without remembering that who killed a Munduruku Indian with a shot in the head was a delegate of the Federal Police, Commander of Operation Eldorado, still without punishment or at least removed from Office.

‘ Who came armed in Jacareacanga Government was the Federal Police and the National Force. According to Nilton (Government representative), the Minister Gilberto Carvalho dispensed with the delegation to come to our village, and tried to impose a meeting in the city of Jacareacanga, under military presence. And that we do not accept ‘, says the letter that follows.

Letter to the Brazilian Government and society

We, the leaders, chiefs and warriors Munduruku of the high, medium and low Tapajós gathered to reaffirm our position contrary to the construction of dams in our rivers, and we are completely outraged at the lack of respect of the Brazilian Government not to attend the meeting, scheduled for today, 25 April, in the village comes out gray, municipality of Jacareacanga, Pará.

Representatives James Garcia and Nilton Tubino, the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, said the Munduruku of Aldermen would not the village Jacareacanga because they feared violence on our part, we were waiting for them and armed with cages to trap them. The Government is trying to make a victim, and this is not true. Who came armed in Jacareacanga Government was the Federal Police and the National Force.

According to Ali, the Minister Gilberto Carvalho dispensed with the delegation to come to our village, and tried to impose a meeting in the city of Jacareacanga, under military presence. And that we do not accept. That meeting had already been cleared once. It should have happened on April 10, but because of the operation, we are afraid of an attack equal to what happened in the village Teles Pires in November last year, when our relative murdered Jimmy. So we do not accept that this meeting happen on that date.

And now the Government is again armed with his troops to a meeting with our people, and invents all sorts of lies, manipulations and distortions about us Munduruku. We want dialogue, but cannot have dialogue with weapons pointed at our heads. And we thought that maybe the Government doesn’t want to talk, because who wants to talk does not kill indigenous, non-invades villages and neither comes armed with police and helicopters.

We demand that the Government stop trying to divide us and handle, pressing our leaders individually, chiefs or councillors. Remember that whoever responds officially by our people are the coordinations of associations Pusuru and Pahyhy calls, Munduruku, the entities representing all the Munduruku communities. We are one people, all of our decisions are always collective and we always express through the associations.

Finally, we reaffirm that we do not want war, Munduruku people want peace. So we want all military troops leave the region. From now on, we require that all meetings and Government meetings are always accompanied by the Attorney of Federal prosecutors. We want our position on the dam is respected, and that the Government regularly prior consultation to the indigenous peoples as the ILO 169 Convention, all before any decision, study or dam construction.

Also we demand that our constitutional rights are guaranteed, without being used as a bargaining chip. And we reaffirm: we oppose the dams and we want all our rivers. And we’ll fight for them.
