King of Norway spends four days in yanomami village in the Amazon

Harald V said that visit was an old dream, when he was a Prince. Monarch slept in collective House of the Indians and followed routine.



King Harald V of Norway, 76 years, lived last week for four days with yanomami Indians in a village in the Amazon, revealed this Saturday the Royal House of the Nordic country.

The visit, which took place between 22 and 25 April, responded to a desire of the monarch, who confessed, dating back to 1970, when he was still a Prince.

“This is a dream I have had since my days in the worldwide Fund for nature-which was named President in that year. Now that there was the opportunity, I accepted, “said Harald V in a statement released by the Royal House.

The monarch traveled invited by Norway for the Rainforest Foundation, whose Chairman, Dag Hareide, accompanied him on your stay in Demini Ridge Village, in Amazonas State, near the border with Venezuela. There he was received by the yanomami leader Davi Kopenawa and Rachel healer, who run a community of 120 residents.

Harald V slept in the same collective House in which the Indians and tasted meat of wild boar, as well as fruits and vegetables of the local gardens. The King also accompanied to the best hunters of the village on one of its outputs to the interior of the forest.

“It was fascinating hearing them imitate all animals that exist here to attract them, from Jaguars to monkeys and parrots,” said the monarch.

Aided by an interpreter, Harald told them the story of the Norwegian Royal family and showed a photo album, which in the end gave as a gift for their hospitality, receiving of Macaw feathers fixed Indians in the forearm with a tape, a special recognition shows that he received before his return to Norway.

The monarch was the first foreign head of State to visit the yanomami territory, according to the Norwegian Royal House.

“I think it was a fantastic trip, incredibly good,” said Harald V.

The Norway is one of the main contributors of the Fund to protect the Amazon created a few years ago by Brazil and has pledged to donate $ 1 billion to it.
