Belo Monte: Justice determines repossession of the construction site. The police force can enter at any time
5/9/2013 Ruy Sposati, Altamira (PA)
The Federal Regional Court of the 1st. Region (TRF1) granted, at 10 and 40 Wednesday night, 8, the repossession of the construction of the Belo Monte hydroelectric power plant in Altamira, Pará. Was allowed the use of police force. About 160 six indigenous ethnic groups occupy the barrage a week ago, claiming peacefully prior consultation and the suspension of studies and works of dams that affect their land.
The reinstatement order allows the forced removal of indigenous to evacuate the building, and at the discretion of the police force admit or not the entry of journalists, lawyers and outside observers. According to workers, the Consórcio Construtor Belo Monte (CCBM) would already be mobilizing workers to return in the morning and morning shifts on Belo Monte, occupied by Indians.
The decision was taken by judge Selene Almeida, TRF1, and dispatched by Judge Maria Cristina Altamira Guedes, Sérgio. The order also rejected requests from the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) of Pará which was allowed the presence of journalists and lawyers in the occupation. The Agency also asked for it to be allowed the entry of products, foods and utensils essential for subsistence, as well as the free access of health professionals of the Special Indigenous Health Department (DSEI).
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has not yet been notified of the decision, and claims to have agreed with police that monitor the reintegration. The Indians fear that the eviction happens during the early hours of Thursday, 9.
