Organized by popular social movements of Mato Grosso do Sul, the March of the People of the Earth came out this morning, June 3, Anhanduí, 60 km from Campo Grande, with approximately 1000 people. The goal is to reach the State capital in four days. The unitary journey of struggles in Mato Grosso do Sul wants to draw attention to the urgent need for demarcation of indigenous lands and Maroons and the implementation of land reform.

The March is held on a historic moment and the strategic struggle of the peoples of the Earth in Mato Grosso do Sul, in which indigenous peoples and in particular the Terena People decided to give a just to the lies of the State and of the Government of Brazil, to violence encouraged with the conniving silence of the State Government declared enemy of indigenous peoples of Mato Grosso do Sul. In a context in which the natives are more a martyr in the struggle for land and territory in the State, with the death of Prince Gabriel, terena Indian during a repossession in Buriti, indigenous land last week.

The March of the People of the Earth, along with the students, union activists, and human rights bodies, is to claim the demarcation of indigenous lands, titling and demarcation of the quilombolas and territories require land reform that is completely stopped in the State.

In addition, the March has a political character of great importance for the social movements in the State have advanced a unitary process important, enhancing unity among indigenous peoples, peasants and quilombolas, directly facing the agribusiness and folwark, deterritorialization and violence caused by agrocapital, being the main victims of the legitimate owners of the land in this part of the country.

The economic and political power, the transnational, Federal and State Governments, according to organizers of the day of action, have used as argument an ideological Empire inserted in phrases like: “the natives have to integrate the national economy”, fallacies as “the development can’t stop”; “agrarian reform has already been made, now needs to improve the settlements”, etc.

So this same Empire, with the same arguments, defends the indefensible: a “urbanoide economy” to empty the fields and the land and leave them in the hands of investors and foreign invaders, the transnational monoculture, of pesticides, and agricultural financial. And worst of all this is that these packages must move forward at any cost, even if it cost to own life, culture and peculiar modes of life of the indigenous, peasant and quilombolas, fundamentally. The people’s Court of the land, one of the organizers of the March has been one of the most important spaces in the last two years of this process of articulation, dialogue and unity of the peoples of the Land in the State.

The March that began today will last four days, with the aim, in addition to giving visibility to land problems in the State, shall give rise to moments of studies and political formation of the participants of the March, which comes by BR 163. The field social movements believe that the construction of the unit is not a mere rhetoric of speeches, but a process that has to be built and demonstrated about everything in practice if it is true.
